Government Takes Action to Curb Informality and Boost Employment
Labor Minister Mónica Recalde emphasized that Paraguay’s most pressing labor challenge is reducing informality, which affects 65% of workers and limits access to rights like social security and job stability. The government is implementing measures such as streamlining procedures, lowering costs, modernizing administration, and strengthening labor inspections to encourage formal employment.
Recalde also highlighted the need to develop strategic industries like technology, renewable energy, and value-added agribusiness to diversify the economy, which heavily relies on agriculture and livestock. Additionally, she stressed the importance of adapting the education system to market demands by prioritizing STEM skills for future workforce integration.
The minister shared these insights at the Global Labor Market Conference in Saudi Arabia, where she participated in a panel on balancing short- and long-term labor market challenges. (Source: Lanacion)
