Major Investment to Modernize Yacyretá Hydroelectric Plant

A strategic agreement is set to revamp the Yacyretá Binational Entity (EBY), ensuring the modernization of its generator park and securing long-term energy production. The plan, which includes financial restructuring and a rate adjustment to USD 28 MWh, will support key investments such as the repair of all 20 generating units and the continued development of the Aña Cuá expansion.
With some units reaching the end of their useful life and others undergoing maintenance, the initiative prioritizes the rehabilitation of essential machinery. Unit 4, for instance, has been fully refurbished and is set to re-enter service this April, with units 7 and 10 next in line.
As one of South America's key hydroelectric plants, Yacyretá plays a vital role in regional energy security. This modernization effort not only enhances efficiency but also strengthens the plant’s capacity to meet future energy demands sustainably. Source: UH
