Paraguay Launches $160M Water and Sanitation Project for Mariano Roque Alonso

Paraguay is set to transform its drinking water and sanitation infrastructure with a $160 million project in Mariano Roque Alonso, benefiting 290,000 residents. The initiative, led by the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) and financed by the Development Bank of Latin America (CAF), will improve wastewater treatment and access to clean water.
Key components include:
✅ A Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) for Mariano Roque Alonso and Luque
✅ 447 km of sewer networks, 10 pumping stations, and new household connections
✅ Improvements in drinking water distribution
✅ A four-lot construction plan with completion expected by 2029
The project aims to reduce pollution in the Paraguay River while supporting sustainable urban growth. ESSAP S.A. will manage operations post-completion, with a one-year training period to ensure efficiency.
International bidding for construction and supervision is now open, with proposals due by March 2025. This initiative aligns with global sustainable development goals, enhancing quality of life and ensuring a healthier future for Paraguay’s growing urban centers.
