Paraguayan mango targets global markets.
The National Service for Plant and Seed Quality and Health (Senave) recently showcased mangos from certified plots free of fruit fly infestations. This initiative aims to open international markets for Paraguayan mangos, with Chile identified as a potential destination.
Senave's president, Pastor Soria, mentioned that the agency is receiving guidance from counterpart institutions in Chile and Peru to enhance fruit fly control measures, a common pest in fruit cultivation.
Paraguay's favorable soil conditions, including mangos, are ideal for tropical fruit cultivation. The country has previously explored mango exports, with companies like Frutika exporting 14 tons of mango juice to Germany.
However, challenges such as pest control, particularly fruit flies, have hindered large-scale exports. Addressing these issues is crucial for Paraguay to tap into the growing global demand for fruits and establish a foothold in international markets. (Source: ABC)
