Paraguayan Surgeons Successfully Perform highly Complex Larynx Surgery

A team of specialists at the Ingavi Surgical Specialties Hospital in Paraguay has successfully performed a total laryngectomy on a 67-year-old patient with advanced laryngeal cancer. The procedure was necessary after the patient did not respond to radiotherapy treatment.
Laryngectomy is a highly complex surgery involving the complete removal of the larynx and treatment of affected neck nodes. The patient is recovering well post-surgery, according to the Social Security Institute (IPS).
Doctors warn that tobacco and alcohol consumption are the main risk factors for developing laryngeal cancer. Symptoms vary depending on the stage, with hoarseness (dysphonia) being common in early cases and breathing difficulties (dyspnea) in more advanced ones. Specialists emphasize the importance of regular throat checkups for early detection and better treatment outcomes. (Source: UH)
