Paraguay´s Major Infrastructure Plan to Ease Access to Asunción won't compromise Public Transport

Paraguay is advancing a transformative infrastructure plan to improve mobility in and out of Asunción while maintaining a strong commitment to sustainable public transport. The Ministry of Public Works has announced a USD 180 million investment to expand and modernize key segments of Route PY02, aiming to enhance traffic flow and connectivity across the metropolitan region.
The project includes a new 4 km elevated highway for light vehicles between Luque and Ñu Guasu, a smart traffic system with reversible lanes on the Ecovía, and upgrades to key access roads like the Jukyry route to Areguá. Importantly, the design preserves space for future developments like the commuter train, integrating long-term transport solutions.
Minister Claudia Centurión emphasized that these upgrades go hand in hand with Paraguay’s public transport reform, highlighted by the arrival of 30 new electric buses as part of a broader sustainable mobility initiative. With support from private investors under a Public-Private Partnership, and oversight from the Ministry, Paraguay is setting the stage for a more efficient, accessible, and environmentally conscious transportation network.
