Paraguay’s Pharma Sector Gains Momentum as Asian Multinationals Eye Investment Opportunities

Paraguay’s pharmaceutical industry is experiencing a wave of positive momentum, attracting attention from Asian multinationals exploring investment opportunities in the region. According to Gerardo García, president of the Paraguayan Chamber of Pharmaceutical Industries (Cifarma), global shifts in trade and supply chains are creating new openings for South America—and Paraguay is well-positioned to benefit.
One recent milestone is the creation of Paraguay’s first National Catalog of Medicines, which aims to enhance the traceability and safety of health products nationwide. Under the supervision of Dinavisa, this new system will assign unified codes to medicines and medical devices, streamlining regulation across public and private institutions.
At the same time, foreign interest is growing. With global pharmaceutical players looking to diversify beyond Asia, Paraguay’s competitive tariffs and growing regional trade network are attracting attention. García notes that recent trade shifts may lead to Asian companies setting up manufacturing hubs in Paraguay to take advantage of favorable conditions.
As the country continues expanding exports to markets like Bolivia, Uruguay, Chile, Peru, and Ecuador, the industry is also exploring new frontiers through the maquila model in countries like Mexico. All signs point to a pharmaceutical sector on the rise, driven by innovation, international partnerships, and strategic foresight. Source: ForbesPy
