Paraguay’s steel sector is experiencing solid growth, fueled by strategic investments, rising demand, and a renewed push for collaboration with the river shipping industry. In 2024, companies in the sector made major strides by investing in advanced equipment—such as sandwich panel lines, profiling machines, and electrowelded mesh production—boosting both capacity and product quality.

Rodrigo Schussmuller, president of the Paraguayan Steel Chamber (Capac), highlighted the sector’s expanding role in national infrastructure and regional trade. He emphasized that closer coordination with the shipping sector is now a priority, especially as river transport remains vital for moving raw materials and exporting steel-based products.

Despite logistical challenges caused by seasonal low water levels, the industry demonstrated resilience and adaptability. The future looks promising as the growing demand for barge construction creates a direct opportunity for local steel producers to supply materials, strengthening both sectors in tandem.

With a forward-looking approach, the Paraguayan steel industry is positioning itself as a key player in South America’s industrial and trade ecosystem. Source: ForbesPy
