Yazaki Shifts Operations from Uruguay to Paraguay Amid Competitiveness Challenges

Japanese multinational Yazaki, a leading manufacturer of electrical wiring for vehicles, is closing its two plants in Uruguay and plans to expand its operations in Paraguay. The company, which has been operating in Mariano Roque Alonso since 2013, cited competitiveness issues and union-related challenges as reasons for the move. While the announcement was made in late January, Paraguay’s Ministry of Industry and Commerce (MIC) stated that discussions are still in the early stages, with no concrete developments yet. Yazaki had been Uruguay’s top auto parts exporter since 2007, with foreign sales reaching $68 million in 2023. Its main clients included global brands such as Toyota, Renault, Honda, Volkswagen, and Peugeot, with Argentina as its primary export destination. (Source: ABC)
